# Death Mountain Crater — Ocarina of Time remake (Switch 2)

Chapter 12 · Adult Link · Overworld. Updated Nov 1, 2026.

The Gorons have vanished from their city, and Death Mountain's volcano is stirring. Find out what happened, gear up against the heat, and head down into the crater to reach the Fire Temple.

**Goal:** Get the Goron Tunic in Goron City, learn the Bolero of Fire, and reach the Fire Temple entrance.

**Rewards:** Goron Tunic, Bolero of Fire

## 1. Up Death Mountain Trail

1. From Kakariko Village, go through the gate at the top of the village onto Death Mountain Trail. Nobody stops you now.
2. Climb the trail. Red Tektites hop along the path; a sword slash or a Hookshot shot takes care of them.
3. Partway up, turn off the main trail into the cave entrance to Goron City.
4. Higher up toward the summit, the volcano now hurls flaming rocks onto the trail. Watch for their shadows and keep moving.
5. (Tip) At the very top sits Biggoron, a Goron the size of a hill. He's the goal of the adult trading sequence, which starts with Anju's Pocket Egg in Kakariko and ends with the powerful Biggoron's Sword.

## 2. An Empty Goron City

1. Goron City is almost silent. Ganondorf's minions have carried off its people.
2. Listen for a rumble on the middle level: a small Goron is rolling laps around the ring-shaped walkway, too frightened to stop.
3. Stand along his route and drop a bomb just ahead of him, timed so it goes off as he rolls into it. A Bombchu sent down the walkway works too.
4. Once he stops, talk to him. He's Darunia's son, named Link after you. He explains that the Gorons were dragged to the Fire Temple to be fed to the dragon Volvagia, and that Darunia went after them.
5. (You get) He gives you the Goron Tunic, which protects you from extreme heat.
6. He also reopens the Goron Shop and the door to Darunia's room for you.
7. (Tip) The shop sells spare Goron Tunics for 200 Rupees, handy if a Like Like ever swallows yours.
8. (Tip) Medigoron, in a hidden side room of the city, sells the Giant's Knife. It hits hard but breaks quickly; the Biggoron's Sword is the unbreakable version.

## 3. Darunia's Room

1. Go down to Darunia's room on the bottom floor. It's empty.
2. Grab the large statue at the back of the room and pull it back to reveal a tunnel.
3. (Watch out) Equip the Goron Tunic before you go through. Without it, a heat timer counts down inside the crater, and when it runs out you're overcome by the heat.
4. Follow the tunnel out into Death Mountain Crater.

## 4. Into the Crater

1. The crater is a vast bowl of lava ringed by rocky ledges and narrow walkways. Stay on solid ground and watch your footing near the edges.
2. Head along the path toward the Fire Temple until you reach a bridge that's broken in the middle.
3. Aim the Hookshot at the wooden bridge on the far side of the gap and pull yourself across.
4. As you cross, Sheik appears.
5. (You get) Sheik teaches you the Bolero of Fire. Playing it warps you to a platform in the crater just above the Fire Temple.
6. (Tip) The Bolero of Fire is the fastest way back here from anywhere in Hyrule.

## 5. Fire Temple Entrance

1. Continue past the warp platform and climb down to the Fire Temple's entrance at the bottom of the path.
2. (Watch out) Keep the Goron Tunic on for the entire Fire Temple. Many of its rooms are as hot as the crater.
3. (Tip) Make sure you have Bombs, the Hookshot, the Fairy Bow, and the Song of Time. If you learned the adult Scarecrow's Song at Lake Hylia, it opens an optional route to two Gold Skulltulas inside.
4. (Tip) Fill your bottles with fairies or potions before you go in. The Fire Temple is long, and the boss hits hard.

## Gold Skulltulas nearby

- **Cracked Wall on the Lower Trail** (Death Mountain Trail; Either age; needs Bombs): On the lower trail before Dodongo's Cavern, bomb the odd-looking wall on the right (an adult can also break it with the Megaton Hammer). Kill the Skulltula behind it, then climb the wall to grab the token.
- **Red Rock Above Dodongo's Cavern** (Death Mountain Trail; Adult Link, night only; needs Megaton Hammer): As an adult at night, go to the ledge above the cavern entrance where the Bomb Flower once sat and smash the red boulder with the Megaton Hammer. Defeat the Skulltula revealed behind it.
- **Red Rocks on the Falling-Rock Path** (Death Mountain Trail; Adult Link, night only; needs Megaton Hammer): Near the summit, at the foot of the climbable wall where rocks rain down, break the red rocks with the Megaton Hammer at night. One of them hides the Skulltula.
- **Back of the Central Platform** (Goron City; Adult Link; needs Hookshot): As an adult on the top floor, step carefully onto the tightrope leading to the middle platform and look at its back side. Hookshot the Skulltula to kill it and collect the token.

## Pieces of Heart nearby

- **Ledge Above Dodongo's Cavern** (Death Mountain Trail; Either age): The piece rests on the rock ledge directly over the entrance to Dodongo's Cavern. Drop onto it from the trail above, near the Bomb Flower, or plant a Magic Bean in front of the cavern as a child and ride the platform as an adult.
- **Wall Alcove by the Upper Entrance** (Death Mountain Crater; Either age): Enter the crater from the top of Death Mountain Trail, walk to the edge ahead, and climb down the rock wall into a small alcove holding the piece. Move quickly, since the heat timer runs unless you wear the Goron Tunic.
- **Volcano Summit** (Death Mountain Crater; Adult Link; needs Bolero of Fire, Magic Bean): As a child, warp in with the Bolero of Fire and plant a Magic Bean in the soft soil near the warp pad. As an adult, ride the platform it grows into and hop off onto the smoking peak to grab the piece.
